28 Years Later
28 Years Later doesn't dominate, but it wins consistently. 64% across 59 head-to-head matchups is a strong bracket record — well above the 50% that means winning as often as losing. Decades of anticipation arrive as bracket momentum before a single vote is cast. The question is whether the film earns that goodwill on its own terms or spends it on borrowed time from a beloved predecessor. It sits in the top 10% of 2020s films. 1.2s average. Quick enough to suggest a snap judgment, slow enough to involve a flicker of thought.
Synopsis
Twenty-eight years since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected. One such group lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway. When one member departs on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well.
57%, 88%, 54%. 28 Years Later has a gear for each round — the semis are strongest, but there's no round where the record dips below competitive.
On the other end of the spectrum: The Ugly Stepsister at 89% is a comfortable win, while Weapons at 33% is the matchup 28 Years Later can't crack.
Top Horror Films of 2025 is 28 Years Later's bracket: it clears the early rounds consistently but meets its ceiling in the final against Weapons (33%).
