It's a Wonderful Life
It's a Wonderful Life barely survives to the final — but when it gets there, its fans deliver. At 51% overall, the record hides the real story. The definitive Christmas movie, carrying eight decades of annual rewatching as competitive fuel. Sentimentality is its weapon and its ceiling — voters either surrender to it completely or recognize they're being played. Decisions come fast at 1.2s average. This is a film people have opinions about before the matchup asks for one.
Synopsis
A holiday favourite for generations... George Bailey has spent his entire life giving to the people of Bedford Falls. All that prevents rich skinflint Mr. Potter from taking over the entire town is George's modest building and loan company. But on Christmas Eve the business's $8,000 is lost and George's troubles begin.
Something happens between the semis and the final. At 42%, It's a Wonderful Life looks beatable. At 60% in the final, it suddenly isn't. The later rounds concentrate the audience that cares most.
The extremes tell a clear story — 67% against Cars at one end, 29% against The Shawshank Redemption at the other.
