Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Monty Python and the Holy Grail wins a lot of early-round matchups but struggles against the best. At 56% overall, first impressions only go so far. Gilliam and Jones built a comedy so quotable it functions as a secret handshake. On a ballot, recognising the references is half the vote — and almost everyone recognises them.
Synopsis
King Arthur, accompanied by his squire, recruits his Knights of the Round Table, including Sir Bedevere the Wise, Sir Lancelot the Brave, Sir Robin the Not-Quite-So-Brave-As-Sir-Lancelot and Sir Galahad the Pure. On the way, Arthur battles the Black Knight who, despite having had all his limbs chopped off, insists he can still fight. They reach Camelot, but Arthur decides not to enter, as "it is a silly place".
65% to 53% to 36%. The decline is steady rather than sudden — Monty Python and the Holy Grail doesn't collapse, it gradually meets its match. The films at the top of the bracket are a different class.
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy at 50% is as close to a dead heat as the platform produces. Every vote matters in this one. On the other end of the spectrum: The Godfather at 75% is a comfortable win, while The Princess Bride at 13% is the matchup Monty Python and the Holy Grail can't crack.
Monty Python and the Holy Grail handles The Big Lebowski in the semis but can't get past The Princess Bride in the final (14%). The tournament nemesis is clear.
