Aliens currently dominates Alien³ 84–16
Cameron's sequel dismantles Fincher's compromised debut — the expected rout.
The Verdict Franchise Civil War
Aliens gives you Ripley in the power loader. Alien³ strips away every advantage Cameron gave her before the film has properly begun. Cameron built the franchise’s most satisfying film. Fincher, at twenty-seven and fighting Fox, built its most alienating one, which may be the point but doesn’t help in a bracket. Satisfaction overwhelms alienation by a margin that tracks with both films’ critical reputations. Alien³’s assembly cut has earned the film defenders. Those defenders are outnumbered here, and they know it.
