Aliens currently dominates Alien: Romulus 78–22
Cameron's action masterpiece routs the franchise revival — the template wins.
The Verdict Decades Apart
Aliens invented the action-sequel template and Romulus is built from it, which creates an asymmetry no amount of modern effects can overcome. The motion tracker scene — marines watching their signals converge from inside the walls, Hudson losing his composure, Ripley watching the adults fail — generates more tension from sound design and editing than Romulus generates from its entire visual arsenal. The original template dominates the copy. Álvarez is a skilled director working inside a structure Cameron built, and the structure is strong enough that working inside it well isn't the same as building something new. The builder wins.
