Inside Moves
73 head-to-head matchups and still no clear verdict on Inside Moves. 48% means the room is essentially split — a genuine coin flip every time it shows up in a bracket. Richard Donner directing a quiet character study about disability, friendship, and basketball at the margins is the least expected entry in his filmography, and the most human thing he ever made. Fans decide quickly — 1.3s avg vs 3.5s platform average.
Synopsis
After a failed suicide attempt leaves him partially crippled, Rory begins spending a lot of time at a neighborhood bar full of interesting misfits. When Jerry the bartender suddenly finds himself playing basketball for the Golden State Warriors, Rory and the rest of the bar regulars hope his success will provide a lift to their sagging spirits. Will Jerry forget his friends? What about his junkie hooker girlfriend and her pimp?
The split doesn't budge. 52% in the opening round, 41% in the semis, 44% in the final — Inside Moves is contested at every stage, with neither side able to pull away.
The Basketball Diaries is the nearest thing to a true rival at 52%. The margin is slim and the outcome still feels unsettled. The 6th Man is the easy matchup at 100%. Above the Rim is the kryptonite at 20%. The gap between best and worst opponent says a lot about what Inside Moves can and can't handle.
Basketball Movie Madness Part II - The Snubs is Inside Moves's bracket: it clears the early rounds consistently but meets its ceiling in the final against Above the Rim (20%).
