Out of Africa wins a lot of early-round matchups but struggles against the best. At 42% overall, first impressions only go so far. A sweeping romantic epic from an era of filmmaking that doesn't exist anymore. Voters either find it genuinely transporting or fundamentally incompatible with their patience. Fans decide quickly — 1.9s avg vs 3.5s platform average.

First impressions do the heavy lifting. 47% in the opening round is where Out of Africa is most convincing — by the final at 21%, the field has thinned to the films it can't outrun.
At 47%, the matchup with The Bridges of Madison County is the tightest in Out of Africa's record — close enough to go either way. Out of Africa beats The Iron Lady (100%) and The Deer Hunter (67%) convincingly. The Devil Wears Prada at 0% is where the dominance ends.
Out of Africa handles The Post in the semis but can't get past The Devil Wears Prada in the final (0%). The tournament nemesis is clear.
