At 26% overall, Paddington 2 looks like an underdog — but by the time it reaches a final, it outperforms. Paul King's sequel has no business being this good, and that gap between expectation and delivery is its sharpest weapon on a ballot. Opponents arrive prepared for a kids' film and find something far more difficult to dismiss. It ranks among the weakest 2010s performers on the platform.
Synopsis
Paddington, now happily settled with the Browns, picks up a series of odd jobs to buy the perfect present for his Aunt Lucy, but it is stolen.
From 23% to 43% across the bracket. Paddington 2 is one of those rare films that improves against harder opposition — the final-round version is a different competitor than the one that started.
The matchup with Aliens is a genuine coin flip at 50% — neither film has found an edge. Against The Empire Strikes Back, Paddington 2 wins only 23%. Some matchups simply don't go your way. The Dark Knight causes similar problems at 29%.
