Alien currently dominates Prometheus 78–22
Scott's original claustrophobia devours his own philosophical sequel.
The Verdict Director's Cut
The Nostromo's corridors are barely wide enough for two people, and Scott uses that compression to make every shadow a threat. Prometheus gives you the grandeur of an alien planet, wide-open caves, and a ship large enough to get lost in — and that spaciousness is precisely the problem. Fear needs walls. The chestburster works because there's nowhere to run; the Engineer's rampage works less because there's everywhere to run. At 78 to 22, voters pick the Scott who understood confinement over the Scott who fell in love with scale. The younger director knew what the older one forgot: in horror, the room should always be too small.
