Fight Club currently beats Inception 57–43
Complicity edges out spectacle — Fincher's trap outperforms Nolan's architecture.
The Verdict Decade Duel
The soap-making montage, the chemical burn, Norton's apartment exploding into an IKEA catalogue. Fincher built Fight Club from images that are simultaneously beautiful and repulsive, and the tension between those qualities is the engine. Inception is more controlled, more elegant, more technically accomplished by most measures — the hallway fight alone is worth the price of admission. But Fincher pulls you into his thesis before revealing the thesis is about you. Nolan holds you at a comfortable distance and shows you something amazing. The pull is more dangerous than the show, and the narrow edge here says danger outperforms amazement, barely.
