Sequels usually coast; this one shows up with a real mystery and lets the leads play looser now that the introductions are done. The new film leans into the buddy comedy the first one set up, and for kids who already love these characters it's the more immediately fun watch, with no world to explain and straight into the chase. The original is the richer film and the one with more on its mind. But a follow-up that's this easy to enjoy can edge its predecessor when the room just wants a good time, and the sequel makes a good time look effortless. Early days, but it's landing.
