Moonrise Kingdom
43% overall with a pattern worth knowing: Moonrise Kingdom opens well and fades. Early-round voters favor it; the films it faces in finals tend not to. Two twelve-year-olds run away together across a New England island in 1965, chased by a Khaki Scout troop, Bruce Willis's lonely policeman and Tilda Swinton as a character called Social Services. It's about the gentlest film Anderson has made, and the one people call sweet without meaning it as a put-down.
Synopsis
Set on an island off the coast of New England in the summer of 1965, Moonrise Kingdom tells the story of two twelve-year-olds who fall in love, make a secret pact, and run away together into the wilderness. As various authorities try to hunt them down, a violent storm is brewing off-shore – and the peaceful island community is turned upside down in more ways than anyone can handle.
