Heads of State currently dominates The Old Guard 2 76–24
Naishuller's original action routs the immortal-warrior sequel.
The Verdict Class of 2025
Naishuller built Hardcore Henry as a first-person experiment in sustained kinetic filmmaking — the entire film shot from the protagonist's POV, the camera a weapon as much as a lens. Heads of State applies that kinetic instinct with more narrative structure, and the result is an action film that feels like it's being invented in real time rather than assembled from franchise parts. Mahoney's Old Guard 2 has Theron's physicality and the mythology of immortal warriors, but the sequel obligation — catching up characters, establishing new stakes, honoring the first film's tone — consumes energy the original didn't need to spend. The gap reflects the distance between invention and continuation.
