Heads of State currently dominates The Old Guard 2 70–30
Original kinetic action edges out franchise immortality.
The Verdict Class of 2025
Naishuller's camera moves through action the way a participant moves through a fight — forward, reactive, occasionally lost — and that participatory quality gives Heads of State a visceral engagement Mahoney's more composed Old Guard 2 doesn't match. Theron's axe work is the sequel's strongest asset, the physicality grounded and convincing in a way most franchise action isn't. But choreographic conviction in individual sequences doesn't compensate for the narrative obligations that slow the spaces between them. The lead says voters prefer the film that maintains its energy throughout over the one that peaks in set pieces and idles between them.
