Midsommar currently beats Us 62–38
The May Queen's smile edges Red's voice — Aster's ending outlasts.
The Verdict Class of 2019
Pugh's final image — crowned in flowers, watching destruction unfold, smiling with the relief of someone finally seen — is the most provocative ending in modern horror. Not because it's violent, but because it's happy. The audience leaves uncertain whether they watched liberation or indoctrination, and the uncertainty produces a debate Us doesn't generate. Red's voice is extraordinary, Nyong'o's commitment total. But Us resolves its central mystery definitively. Midsommar refuses to resolve its question: was Dani right to stay? The unresolved question produces the longer conversation, and the longer conversation produces the wider margin. Midsommar is still asking its question. Us answered and moved on.
