Oppenheimer
Oppenheimer wins a lot of early-round matchups but struggles against the best. At 55% overall, first impressions only go so far. Nolan's three-hour IMAX epic asks voters to commit to the weight of it. On a ballot, that density is either the whole argument or the reason to pick something leaner.
Synopsis
The story of J. Robert Oppenheimer's role in the development of the atomic bomb during World War II.
The arc isn't a straight decline: 69% to 40% to 41%. The semifinal dip hurts, and the partial recovery in finals isn't enough to recapture the opening-round form.
The closest rivalry is with The Dark Knight at 46% — a matchup tight enough that a handful of votes could flip the lead. Dunkirk is the easy matchup at 71%. Interstellar is the kryptonite at 25%. The gap between best and worst opponent says a lot about what Oppenheimer can and can't handle.
In Best of Nolan, Oppenheimer dominates Dunkirk (71%) in round one, trails Inception 58–42% in the semifinals, trails The Dark Knight 54–46% in the final. The final is too close to call.
Christopher Nolan's 10 films span a wide range: The Dark Knight Rises at 69% to Tenet at 24%. Oppenheimer sits at #6.
