Prisoners

Underdog Below average but still in the conversation
2013 · Drama, Thriller, Crime · Denis Villeneuve

At 46% across 121 matchups, Prisoners is losing more than it wins — but not by the kind of margin that suggests the audience has made up its mind. No round offers a foothold — below average at every stage. The American breakout that put Villeneuve on Hollywood's radar is a punishing moral thriller voters tend to admire more than they want to sit through again. Choosing it means re-entering hours of rain, dread, and a decent man doing indecent things, and not everyone signs up for that twice. Voters pick in 1.6s on average — well under the 3.5s platform norm.

Synopsis

Keller Dover is facing every parent’s worst nightmare. His six-year-old daughter, Anna, is missing, together with her young friend, Joy, and as minutes turn to hours, panic sets in. The only lead is a dilapidated RV that had earlier been parked on their street.
