The Shining
The middle rounds aren't kind to The Shining. But put it in a final, and it becomes one of the tougher matchups on the platform. At 51% overall, it's deceptive. Kubrick's horror is so meticulously designed that decades of obsessive analysis haven't exhausted it. That bottomless quality gives voters a reason to pick it that goes beyond fear — it's the horror film you can intellectualize choosing.
Synopsis
Jack Torrance accepts a caretaker job at the Overlook Hotel, where he, along with his wife Wendy and their son Danny, must live isolated from the rest of the world for the winter. But they aren't prepared for the madness that lurks within.
The semifinals at 42% are where casual support gets tested — and mostly fails. But the final at 66% is a different story: the voters still choosing The Shining at that stage are the ones who mean it.
The matchup with Psycho is a genuine coin flip at 50% — neither film has found an edge. The extremes tell a clear story — 100% against Full Metal Jacket at one end, 32% against A Nightmare on Elm Street at the other.
