Rising Star Gets stronger in later rounds
1980 · Horror, Thriller · Stanley Kubrick

The overall record undersells The Shining. 45% across 426 head-to-head matchups looks average until you look at how the numbers shift as a tournament progresses. Kubrick's horror is so meticulously designed that decades of obsessive analysis haven't exhausted it. That bottomless quality gives voters a reason to pick it that goes beyond fear — it's the horror film you can intellectualize choosing. It ranks behind the other Stanley Kubrick film tracked here. 1.6s average. Quick enough to suggest a snap judgment, slow enough to involve a flicker of thought.
